Have you ever done a liver cleanse? Expectations vs reality
Expectation: waking up glowing. Reality: a hangover I scheduled myself — and a decade-long detour to the thing that actually works.

Nobody starts a liver cleanse expecting to feel worse. The whole promise is that you'll feel amazing.
For the record, nobody forced me into it.
I met a doctor who recommended liver cleanses. I genuinely didn't know what she meant. I said yes anyway.
That's how most of my stories start, by the way. Curiosity first, questions later.
The preparation was easy. Suspiciously easy.
I remember thinking, this is something new, maybe I'll feel incredible. I was keen.
The first one I tried was the Moritz protocol. The classic. Epsom salt and faith.
I did the basic preparation, and then came the day of the purge.
Expectation: lightness. Clarity. Some kind of glow.
Reality: tired, slow, and so dehydrated I could barely think.
The whole thing felt like a hangover. A hangover I had prepared for, scheduled, and technically paid for.
I kept doing them anyway.
And they worked, sort of. I felt less heavy after each one. But something was off, and I couldn't name it yet.
So I left the cleanses alone for a while and kept walking the longer road. Better food. More attention. Actually caring what went into me.
That road led me straight to the liver's quietest enemy: seed oils.
Most people have no idea. Saturated and vegetable oils are some of the hardest things the liver ever has to deal with. They park fat right in the liver, and the liver doesn't have the enzymes to process it.
Here's the shocking part. Seed oils are hidden in almost every food. Every restaurant. Every label. Everything you touch.
Once you see that, eating out stops being an option. That learning curve was the hardest part of the whole journey.
After that realization I went deeper. What does the liver actually do? How does it work? What are enzymes really for?
One word kept repeating in my head, over and over. Enzyme. Enzyme. Enzyme.
So I did what any quietly obsessed person does. I bought enzymes. A lot of enzymes.
Plant-based, synthetic, every provider with a promising label. Hundreds of dollars. Probably thousands.
And I felt nothing. It just never reached anywhere.
Eventually, I kind of gave up.
Then, not long after, I was in a work meeting with an influencer.
So I said the true thing. I told her I was strangely passionate about enzymes.
She said two words I'd never heard together before: fermented enzymes.
My curiosity took it from there. It usually does.
Lucky for me, I met a biochemist who had designed a fermented-enzyme protocol to cleanse the liver.
The first time I tried it, I finally understood what had been off about the Epsom salt years.
Those cleanses only empty you. Fermented enzymes don't just detox and clean the liver. They regenerate it.
Every time I did one, I woke up the next morning feeling amazing. Clear. Focused. Awake. Actually hydrated.
That's when I knew I'd hit the jackpot.
Here's the lesson, years after that first hangover-flavored morning: the expectation was never wrong. It was just early.
The feeling I was promised was real. It just wasn't where everyone said it would be.
